Not dead (yet)

Hey there.

I’d apologize for lack of updates, but in all honesty, I’m not sorry. I feel the blogosphere’s signal-to-noise ratio tips very highly in the latter’s direction–the majority of our culture as well, probably, but I’d rather not make a claim that broad–and I’d much rather post when I have something to share than adhere to some kind of schedule that forces me to concoct inanity purely for the warmfuzzies of looking at the blog stats page.
Not that my blog updates are necessarily the most intelligently-structured or revelatory things to ever surface out of this digital soup.

That said, big tings a gwan here in White River! A couple of weeks ago, I dropped my thesis presentation upon the unwitting students and faculty of the Center for Cartoon Studies, changing their lives FOREVER–or at least for, like, 10 minutes or so. Here’s the posters I used to supplement my unfocused, profanity-laden babble.

I aims to continue work on the Tentacle Kid project that I started lo those many months ago. Longtime readers should be relatively familiar with my obsession with the Western genre–and this poster pretty much sums up my intentions with the project. I’ve been thinking a bit about what the Western really is–I’ve heard it compared to stories of ronin, to Arthurian legend, to the Hero Cycle, etc., etc.–and have yet to reach a more than a kind of  vague formulation about the post-WWII trend towards pessimism and anti-authoritarianism in Western films. I’m leaning toward the idea that the West in fiction represents a kind of return to legendary times, a reconnection with a pre-industrialized world and a reaffirmation of the worth of the individual. I’ll get back to you on that at some later date, when I’ve done more research and thinkin’.

Of course, directly opposite the  relatively family-friendly world of the Tentacle Kid is this, the TOPSEEKRIT project I’ve spoken about previously:

I still don’t want to say too much about this one yet, but it’s going to be a significant challenge for me to execute, which is why I’m so glad that I finished the script this summer. Hopefully I’ll be able to get it done in time for MoCCA.
What I can tell you about The Yoke & Crown is that it sounds a bit like Condanna. But less gothy. I can’t find a place to host the .mp3 I made that is a bit closer to the way I want this mug to sound, so Condanna will have to do for now.

I’m also working on another SEEKRITPROJEKT I hope to have done before the next semester starts, if I can scrape together the money I need to get my laptop fixed.
